Well every Friday night over the past eight years people in Martinsville come out to honor veterans who have died this has become a ceremony that operates like clockwork. but tonight our Alan Carter shows us a twist on the tradition with an honorary member performing taps it's a tradition that never misses rolling Kinsinger US Army Korea rain or shines Theodore Ted Davis US Navy Korea Sun or snow Joseph Dale King US Air Force for 391 weeks in a row Martinsville has honored our veterans Staff Sergeant Chester McBride tonight reading the names of 77 men and women.
Who passed away over the week always right after the members of Spirit 45 plays taps we've gone from two or three people a week now we've got four view doors that sound every week here almost well and it's always been them until tonight.
when a much younger face was on the bugle garrison Huddleston is from New Jersey where every year his town holds a big Memorial Day parade and this was his year to perform but the coronavirus had other plans we had to do it virtually but of course, it wasn't really the same and I wasn't able to sound tap so that was a bit of a disappointment for sure so when these veterans from Martinsville Indiana heard he'd be in town this week they stepped aside and gave him the stage they asked us of what you would let him do it with us nice oh no he's going to go by himself this opportunity has really been kind of a dream come true for me and even though it's not the same as what I was expecting it's still an honor sure sometimes tradition is best when it's flexible. I mean these kids are our future we want them to take over when that last bell sounded for me and they sound taps over me.I want to know that there's a young man or young woman willing to take over the one thing that is for certain is next Friday at they'll be back at it.
